Four Accessories You Need for the French Horn

In this blog post, we'll explore four essential accessories that every French Horn player should have in their toolkit. Let's delve into the world of French Horn accessories!

1. Rotary Valve Oil

Valve oil will keep your valves moving smoothly. If they are feeling a bit hard to push down or aren’t coming back up when you push them down, this can usually be fixed by oiling your valves. Most French Horns have rotary valves which use a particular type of valve oil that is different from what you use for a trumpet.

2. Slide Grease

Slide grease is thicker than slide cream and is good for the tuning slides, as you don’t need them to move freely while playing. Remember to move these slides in and out occasionally to stop it from seizing up.

3. Cleaning Snake

Cleaning snakes are a long cable with small brushes on both ends. You can pull it through your leadpipe and slides to remove any accumulated build up. This is a safe way to clean your French horn, as non-flexible brushes may cause dents to your delicate instrument.

4. Mouthpiece Brush

The mouthpiece brush is shorter than your cleaning snake and the perfect size for leaving your mouthpiece spotless. The small size mouthpiece brush from Yamaha is suitable for French Horn and comes in a case to keep it in good condition.
